» Polzois, Ketner, and Cagle Collections Now Available
Three collections, the James Polzois, Linda G. Ketner, and Stephen W. Cagle papers, are now processed and open for research.
This collection consists of the papers of artist James Polzois including biographical materials, educational and military records, correspondence and photographs documenting Polzois’ daily life, and memories of Polzois compiled by friends after his death. Art includes prints and published works of Charleston, South Carolina, area landmarks, drawings and sketches of architecture and city scenes, mixed material works including a three-dimensional art piece of Charleston architecture and history, and photographs of artwork including his miniature houses and a dining room mural. Writings include Polzois’ typescripts of articles and research in several different areas including Denmark Vesey, Harlan, Iowa, and the Charleston Unitarian Universalist Church. There is also a proposal written by Polzois for remodeling the Orpheum Theatre in Omaha, Nebraska, reference files on art, architecture, and design compiled by Polzois including prints, architectural drawings, design catalogs, and artworks by others.
The collection consists of the papers of Linda G. Ketner, philanthropist, political candidate, and activist for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) rights. The papers include reference and operating files and audiovisual and born-digital materials relating to Ketner’s 2008 campaign for South Carolina Congressional District 1. There are also working files and planning materials and audiovisual and born-digital materials relating to Ketner’s volunteer work with nonprofit organizations including the Alliance for Full Acceptance and SC Equality.
The collection consists of the papers of Linda G. Ketner from 1988 to 2013. The papers include political campaign records, professional papers, records relating to the Alliance for Full Acceptance (AFFA).
The collection consists of the papers of Stephen W. Cagle, white proprietor of the gay business establishment Charleston Beach Bed & Breakfast at Folly Beach, South Carolina, with his domestic and business partner Charles S. Holt, white Air Force veteran. The papers include photographs, correspondence, and realia dating from 1989 to 2001 including photographs, correspondence, and realia relating to the Charleston Beach Bed & Breakfast at Folly Beach, South Carolina, run by Cagle and his partner Charles S. Holt. Photographs include the aftermath of Hurricane Hugo and pictures of friends and guests around the bed and breakfast. There are also photograph albums of the Lowcountry AIDS Services (now Palmetto Community Care) fundraiser Dining with Friends. There are materials relating to the stay of the cast of Les Miserables at the bed and breakfast. Correspondence includes letters about Hurricane Hugo, thank you notes from guests, and condolence letters after Holt’s death.
