• Unprocessed collections are those that have not yet been prepared for routine service (i.e., housed for safe handling, labeled, and cataloged). Unprocessed archival and manuscript collections are generally considered open for research, provided they are not restricted. Before we can provide access to an unprocessed collection, staff must review it for sensitive and private information such as social security numbers and medical or academic records, as well as for materials covered by donor-imposed or legal restrictions.
  • Requests must be made at least one week in advance for any unprocessed collections. And in some instances, screening materials for compliance with restrictions requires a closer review of materials and may take longer. Additionally the Archives may need to delay access for a reasonable period of time to inventory the records or stabilize fragile materials. For questions about accessing unprocessed collections, please email the Manager of Research Services.
